Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Ugly Love - Colleen Hoover

Genre: New Adult Contemporary

Goodreads Summary

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Review

This is absolutely beautiful. I cried while reading this. Ugly Love is the second book that I read by Colleen Hoover. The first one was Maybe Someday and I enjoyed it but I did not love it. I felt little connection to the characters and though I felt sad, it didn't make me shed a tear (which is very unlikely because I cry easily especially when reading emotional books). But I absolutely loved Ugly Love. The writing is absolutely beautiful and compelling. It is very easy to read and makes you want to read more. I read this in only a few hours. I liked how the characters are very real. Yes, they made some choices I don't particularly like, but that's what makes them real. They make mistakes just like we do. Some of them went through some horrible stuff, you can't blame them for acting the way they did. This book is very emotional and I love books that make me feel. It has some depth to it which adds a lot to the story.

I did have some problems with it though, that's why I only rated it 4 stars instead of 5. The first problem I had was with the romance. There was instalove involved in both of the romances in the story. I have a hard time believing in love at first sight so that put me off. The next problem was that it was predictable at some points and I felt like I read something like that a hundred times before. However, I think this is still worth a read. It broke my heart, made me smile like an idiot, and definitely made me root for the main protagonists. If you want to get into New Adult, pick this book up. Keep it mind that it has some mature content so if you don't like those stuff or are too young, this may not be the book for you.

Quotes

The pain will always be there. So will the fear. But the pain and fear are no longer my life. They're only moments.

It's all worth it. It's the beautiful moments like these that make up for the ugly love.

Some people they grow wiser as they grow older. Unfortunately, most people just grow older.

I suppose if a man lived through the ugliest side of love, he might never want to experience it again.
